What is BS EN 55032:2015+A11:2020 about?

This European standard covers the emission requirements of multimedia equipment so the emissions don’t interfere with radio services. This amendment adds an informative annex showing the relationship between this standard and the essential requirements of Directive 2014/30/EU (the latest EMC Directive). Compliance with BS EN 55032:2015+A11:2020 will provide one means of conforming to the Directive and associated EFTA regulations.

Who is BS EN 55032:2015+A11:2020 for?

  • Suppliers of IT or multimedia equipment
  • IT and telecommunications product/equipment designers
  • Telecommunications network operators
  • EMC test laboratories
  • Regulatory bodies
  • Installers, manufacturers, importers and systems integrators of the following products:

Computers, laptops, tablets, displays, printers, storage devices, TVs, radios, hi-fi, telecommunication equipment, MP3 players, GPS receivers, professional audio/video systems (studio/theatre/cinema/stadium), digital cameras and camcorders, electronic musical instruments (synthesizers), gaming machines from handheld and video game consoles to full-size arcade games

Why should you use BS EN 55032:2015+A11:2020?

It covers emission requirements of multimedia equipment (MME). It establishes requirements that will allow radio services to operate as intended in the frequency range 9 kHz to 400 GHz. It also specifies procedures to ensure the reproducibility of measurement and the repeatability of results.

Annex ZZ.1 demonstrates that BS EN 55032:2015+A11:2020 covers the protection requirements in Annex I, Article 1(a) of the EU Directive 2014/30/EU. Compliance with this standard therefore provides presumption of conformity with the specified essential requirements of this Directive.

NOTE: The un-amended standard is not listed in the Official Journal of the European Union as its Annex ZZ refers only to the essential requirements of the previous EMC Directive, 2004/108/EC, which was repealed on 20 April 2016. After that date the new EMC Directive, 2014/30/EU, had to be applied. Therefore manufacturers seeking compliance with the latest EMC Directive, 2014/30/EU, were required, until publication of this amendment, to use another means of conformity to demonstrate compliance.

BS EN 55032:2015+A11:2020 contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goal 9 on building resilient infrastructure because it supports the operation of radio reception as intended.

What’s new about BS EN 55032:2015+A11:2020?

The 2020 amendment adds an informative annex showing the relationship between this standard and the essential requirements of Directive 2014/30/EU (the latest EMC Directive). Compliance with BS EN 55032:2015+A11:2020 now provides one means of conformity with the Directive.
